more about the mimm
Good morning…..we were finally able to hook up the internet at our apartment late yesterday afternoon. Last nite we taught an English class at the long island branch which is close to the mission home. The people are mostly shy and some understand a little English but most of them are afraid to try and speak. I had an opportunity to visit with a native seminary teacher who speaks pretty good English and he told me that there are two marshaleese communities, one in salt lake and one in mesa. He said the one in mesa didn’t have as many members of the church as the one in salt lake. We met with President Bleak and his wife for dinner and had the opportunity to know them better. They had just returned from kribati and it takes almost three days for just the travel. Majuro to Honolulu and then Honolulu to Fiji and then Fiji to Kiribati. It is only about an hour flight from here to Kiribati but the interisland planes still aren’t flying. They say they will test fly the dash 8 tomorrow but I drove by the airport a couple of days ago and the engines still aren’t on the airplane so I don’t think that will happen. We do love it here. The ocean is so beautiful every morning out of our bedroom window. We usually open up the window at nite You can hear the surf. We are about as far from the water as we were in mexico. We have district meeting this morning and we are going to ask if we can go with the missionaries during part of the day and have a chance to visit some part member families in between tracting. Does this sound like your dad talking? I forgot to tell you that in Kiribati family is so important with the Polynesians and that they sing and dance and always are together. It’s like this is the city and in Kiribati it’s out in the country. President says they bring fish and food to the missionaries everyday. I guess they actually feed the young elders. It is so amazing to us that we are really part of the missionary spirit and we love every minute of it. We are sharing two cars with the two office missionary couples. We will have the most use of the cars. The office couples told us that we probably wouldn’t have a car and we didn’t complain and it’s kind of interesting how things work out isn’t it? We love you and want you to know that our testimonies are strong. We love the work and I’m glad to say that we really don’t even think much about costco or walmart any more. Love dad and lois. P.s. we’ve compromised with the ants. We let them have their space and eat a little bit of something occasionally. I started a sour dough start day before yesterday and it’s ready today.
